I was born in 1965 in Munich. From the age of 3 to 10 I lived in Caracas, Venezuela. In 1976 we moved back to Germany, where I attended the Richard-Strauss Conservatory in Munich, after accomplishing my Abitur. In 1989 I finalized my studies as a state certified piano and flute teacher. I minored in viola.
In addition to my broad range and different fields of musical education, I studied conducting with Georg Schmöhe, general music director of the State Opera of Kassel, and Ulrich Weder, professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In addition, I learned choral conducting with Hans-Rudolf Zöbeley, conductor of the “Münchner Motettenchor”.
Between 1986 and 1992 I belonged to a small circle of students that worked with the legendary Sergiu Celibidache, general music director at the Berlin and Munich philharmonic.
It is thanks to Celibidache that my artistic conviction took on its form: parting from the mechanical performance of a composition in pursuit of the resurrection of the “deceased” notes with the ultimate goal of a conscious creation of their sound.
Throughout my artistic formation I took on various guest and permanent assignments to conduct non-professional as well as student orchestras. I closely followed the work of numerous famous conductors, such as Seiji Ozawa, Lorin Maazel, Sandor Vegh as well as Leonard Bernstein and attended seminars with Nikolaus Harnoncurt. After I finished my education, I started conducting professional orchestras and performing as solo pianist not only in Germany, but also in Italy, Yugoslavia, Colombia, Paraguay, Venezuela and Panama.
Between 1992 and 1994 I worked as assistant to the general musical director of the State Opera of Kassel, where I took on the role of repetiteur in the performance of various operas. Between 1995 and 1997 I taught chamber music and ensemble performance at the university of Kassel. It was during this time that I conducted on various occasions the Threepenny Opera with the orchestra of the state theater. Between 1997 and 1999 I taught and managed the choirmaster school of Kassel. Together with the Sinfonietta Beograd and the St. George Strings Belgrad I performed in concert and recorded various CDs. These works included pieces by Bach, Mozart and Beethoven (7. Symphonie).
While I continue to oversee the recording of professional performances and occasionally take on guest assignments to conduct professional orchestras, I have dedicated my life to working with amateurs over the past 20 years.
Moreover, I have very passionately been performing and growing awareness of a new type of concert, known as “conversational concerts” – where I perform as solo pianist on the piano or in a duo, together with the violinist Matthias Babl. In our “conversational concerts” I intend to help my audience to follow and understand a composition through musical performance, narrative, and dialogue with the audience.
